At Midtown Dental, we understand that proper oral health goes far beyond treating problems like cavities and tooth decay. Our dentists also specialize in orthodontics so that we can keep your and your children’s teeth in the best shape possible by correcting crooked teeth and misaligned bites. Whether you’ve got a misaligned jaw or need braces to straighten your front teeth, we’re proud to offer professional orthodontics in Denver, Colorado.
Are You a Good Candidate for Orthodontics
If you have crooked teeth, orthodontics could help straighten them, improving your ability to brush and floss and also increasing your self-confidence. However, many people aren’t sure as to whether or not their problem warrants these types of dental procedures. If you experience these issues, you may be a good candidate for orthodontic care:
- Misaligned teeth
- Bad bites
- Cramped palate
- Jaw issues
During your consultation at Midtown Dental, we’ll examine your teeth and discuss your orthodontic options.
Braces
Using metal brackets and wires, braces correct misaligned teeth. Essentially, the braces put pressure on your jawline to move each tooth where it needs to be. Sometimes, we complement braces by placing a device known as an expander on the roof of the mouth, ensuring proper palate adjustment.
At Midtown Dental, we offer four types of braces:Â
- Metal braces:Â Use premium-grade stainless steel brackets and wires to ensure straight teeth.
- Clear braces:Â Use ceramic brackets that blend in with the color of your teeth.
- Self-ligating braces:Â Use a unique, less-intrusive bracket-and-wire design to help patients interested in a more subtle, simpler treatment.
- Lingual braces:Â Unlike other braces designs, which feature prominently on a patient’s front teeth surface, lingual braces hide behind your teeth on their backside. These braces offer the same benefits as traditional designs while enhancing aesthetics and allowing patients interested in playing intense sports and musical instruments to keep doing what they love.
Headgear
Sometimes, traditional orthodontics, like braces and clear aligners, aren’t enough to get the job done. In particular, children with severe dental problems like overbites, overcrowding, and poor jaw alignment may benefit from more intensive treatment. Our dentists offer various types of orthodontic headgear to help ensure your child’s teeth and supporting bones develop healthily.
Our headgear pieces are easy to adjust and usually require anywhere from 12 to 14 hours of regular wear per day. Your child can wear their headgear in the evening and while they sleep, preventing them from having to wear the device in public. Although patients might initially feel discomfort as they adjust, most headgear pieces aren’t painful to wear.
We’ll pick the right type of headgear depending on your child’s situation. For example, if they suffer from an overbite, we’ll use a cervical pull or high pull headgear piece to move their jaw back into place. On the other hand, we can use a reverse pull piece to fix underbites or an underdeveloped upper jaw.
